Appearance: Other than his skin(Black), Alan is not exceptional in his appearance. His height is perfectly average, so he neither towers nor cowers. He wears his hair short. His shoulders are neither particularly broad, or impressive. He does not have a large amount of muscle tone, but he is very wiry, and is definitely in shape, with a well-defined set of stomach abs and pectorals.
His eyes are very captivating and piercing, disconcerting some people with the effect of his gaze. He masks this effect by wearing horn-rim glasses, an odd affectation, rather than contacts. His fashion is up-to-date and a smart mix between casual and formal clothing. He does prefer to wear vintage clothing, but often, it will be a brand-free outfit.
He always has his smartphone with him, personally programmed for his needs, which contains a database on students he's met and interacted with, as well as information he can glean from the internet about them. He doesn't tell anyone about this database, however, so it is largely a secret. He can often be seen reading a book on his phone, or writing notes. Alan is an extremely focused person. He doesn't do anything that he hasn't considered for how it will affect his image, progress in life, and future success. His appearance, his behaviour, his friends, everything, are all carefully cultivated to present the perfect image to the world. He is very studious, taking an engineering degree in preparation for eventually taking over his mother's company. He is at Ainsworth University for the connections and the elite education. One of his few releases from the rigid self-control he imposes on himself is swimming and other physical exercise.
He will come off as just gregarious enough to be liked, trustworthy and reliable enough to be given responsibilities. He can be stubborn, and sometimes needs to be reminded not to be. When it comes to women he is quietly charming, using his knowledge and intelligence to attract and maintain relationships. However, for him, relationships are there to serve some sort of purpose for him.
Though under the surface he does seem cold, some of his deepest motivators are founded on a sense of desire to reduce the suffering of everyone. He wishes he could believe utterly in the Buddhist faith, but sees all too easily the contradictions and lapses of logic in it. He is an atheist, simply because it makes the most sense. He is careful not to tell people this, as it could ruin his carefully constructed image.
He finds swimming to be very peaceful and is often up at early hours to relax in the pool. He knows he has an attractive body, and isn't afraid to display it. History:
Alan's mother graduated as an engineer from a relatively unknown school, but quickly made connections in Silicon Valley. She started a company specializing in technical equipment for biogenetics research, which quickly expanded to providing technical equipment for many other medical companies, Universities, and so on. She is very dedicated, and never had time for relationships, so she had herself artificially inseminated, and Alan was born.
Alan was raised by the best teachers that could be hired, and he proved to have an exceptional mind for engineering from an early age. He independently discovered and quantified Bernoulli's laws of aerodynamics at the age of 8. He was given a computer, and proved to have an aptitude for programming as well.
However, his mother wanted to ensure he was well-rounded and enrolled him in sport after sport until he discovered swimming and jogging. She also made sure he was taught all the social graces and how to be a great leader of people. This singular focus of love and devotion forever left its mark on Alan.
However, despite the love that was showered on Alan, he still encountered hateful people, those who derided him for being 'new money', and especially those that attacked his skin color. This too left an indelible mark in Alan, convincing him he had to be absolutely perfect and exceptional to head off the teasing and accusations.
Alan met James in boarding school in the 7th grade, after they were paired up for a history research project. The two boys enjoyed each other's company, despite getting a mediocre grade on the project(something they blame each other for), and have been friends ever since.
In his first year at Ainsworth, Alan helped found the debate club, and is a regular member, joined the swimming team, and has just joined the culinary club. He has encouraged James to explore alternative hobbies and subjects.
Extra: He is secretly jealous of Jim's relationship with his father, and of the "old money" status Jim holds. In the past he has plotted and sometimes carried out acts of revenge(no permanent harm) on people who were extremely racist to him. He also has a database on students he's met and talked with, which could get him in serious trouble were it discovered.
